Eight stops, thirty minutes each

A minibus of up to 19 covers the full loop from the Berserkjahraun lava field to the Ytri Tunga seal beach, with an even 30 minutes at each of eight stops. Pick it for the most even pacing of any day tour, and pack lunch: meals are not included.

Peninsula Adventure, Small Group

About this experience

The operator is not named on the listing. The format is simple: pickup at designated bus stops in central Reykjavik, then eight stops of 30 minutes each, clockwise. Berserkjahraun, Kirkjufell and its waterfall, the national park, Djupalonssandur, the Londrangar cliffs, Arnarstapi, Budir and Ytri Tunga.

That even split is the selling point. Half an hour at Budir church is generous, and 30 minutes at Ytri Tunga is double what the coach allows. Where it costs you is the two big stops: Djupalonssandur and Arnarstapi get 30 minutes, where some rivals give 45 or 50. Infant seats are available, and the minimum age is 2.

Read the small print. The Viator URL says "lunch included", but the listing's exclusions say meals and drinks are not included. One guest reports the food stop came at 4pm. Pickup is the other weak spot: two reviewers had pickup times changed or missed. Some departures run bilingual, which slows the commentary.

  • Eight stops at 30 minutes each, the most even pacing
  • 30 minutes at Budir and Ytri Tunga, longer than most
  • Kirkjufell plus Kirkjufellsfoss on the way out
  • Infant seats available, ages 2+
  • 19 guests at most

What guests say

★★★★★

Driver of the clean and pleasant little bus was a fun and interesting guide. He kept us informed of where we would be going and how long we would stay, and even made extra stops to accommodate our aging bladders.

We were picked up on time at our designated bus stop in a nice warm mini-bus by our guide Petur. [...] We had plenty of time to explore and get pictures on our stops.

★★★★★

This is a very long day with lots of walking. But well worth it. It's designed to make the right number of restroom/food stops.

★★★★★

It's a long day, with quite a bit of driving, but also well worth it. [...] Plus we saw the attic tern, a couple of puffins and seals
