Snaefellsnes at your own pace

Snaefellsnes Private Tour

About this experience

This is the one tour here priced per group, not per person: one price covers up to 7 travellers, and with all seven seats filled, each share comes in under the per-person price of the two lunch tours. The operator is not named on the listing.

The listed itinerary is generous to the point of being a menu: Gerduberg and Berserkjahraun as pass-bys, an hour at Kirkjufellsfoss, 30 minutes each at Djupalonssandur, Londrangar and the Malarrif lighthouse, two hours at the visitor centre and two at Arnarstapi, then Budir church and the Ytri Tunga seals for 15 minutes each. Add five hours of driving and that won't all fit in 10 to 11 hours. In practice you and the guide trade time between stops, which is the whole point.

Lunch is not included, though you choose when and where to eat. Infant seats are available and it's stroller accessible. If you're comfortable driving and it's summer, renting a car does the same loop for less (Route 54 is paved, a 2WD is fine). The private tour wins in winter, on windy days and when nobody wants to drive five hours there and back.

  • One price for up to 7 people
  • Stops as long as you want: the listing allows up to 2 hours at Arnarstapi

What guests say

★★★★★

Both our guide and the scenery were simply amazing. We learned and saw so much on this tour and the guide took the time to make the stops enjoyable for my kids, getting closer to the seals, playing in the museums, and including fun facts that they enjoyed.

Our very kind tour guide Deyan was excellent in showing us myriad attractions on the Peninsula. It was an ambitious plan that he executed very well.

Tips before you book

  • Do the per-head maths. Divide the group price by your party size and compare it with the per-person tours for the date you want.
  • Tell the guide your priorities at pickup. The listed stop times don't all fit in one day, so pick two places to linger.
  • Order child seats when you book, with ages, so the right ones are in the van.
  • If you want Vatnshellir lava cave, ask in advance: it runs 45-minute guided tours only (ISK 5,900 adult, Summit Adventure Guides) and isn't in the price.
